Katie, Be Cool is a delightful musical comedy set in a high school in the 1950's.  The storyline is inspired by William Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, and is accompanied by an upbeat 50's/60's musical soundtrack
 

The story takes place on prom night at Padua High School in 1959.  At the center of the story are the Minola sisters and their strong sibling rivalry.  Bianca desperately wants to go to the prom with Luke (the dreamy pitcher for the varsity baseball team) but her mother, Mrs. Minola, will not allow her to go the the prom unless her sister Katie also goes.  The trouble is that Katie, a very feisty girl, wants absolutely nothing to do with the prom (or boys for that matter).  With the help of Luke's wisecracking best friend Pete and clever sister Gracie, he and Bianca may just make it to the prom together. 

The soundtrack, featuring some of Philadelphia's top rock musicians, is written by Kelly Stallard, and is produced and engineered by Brian Bricklin, whose songs have been featured in major motion pictures including Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Election (starring Reese Witherspoon), and The Shrink is In (starring Courtney Cox and David Arquette).

 

As with all MTC Children's Theatre productions, all children will receive lots of on-stage time.  Most characters have solo singing opportunities.

Tuition:

   $275 (siblings $200) if paid by check
If paid by credit card, and additional $5 fee per student is applied.

Includes: Script, music CD, use of costumes, 4 tickets to each performance.		  

 

 

Created especially for children in the elementary school age range, Music Training Center’s Musical Theatre classes provide a great educational, social, and confidence-building experience.

We limit our productions to 12 children, so that all children receive prominent lead or ensemble roles. Each child gets to act, sing, and dance through nearly all of the production. Each child receives a script and a practice CD containing the musical accompaniments. Some plays also include a practice DVD illustrating the dances and other choreography used in the play   Our stage has professional sound and lighting, giving the children a truly rewarding experience



Attendance is mandatory at all rehearsals
except in case of unavoidable emergency or illness.

Do not schedule any conflicting activities during the span of this class.
