Class Descriptions
Students are taught to perform together in
a rock band that exhibits
the student's individual and collective talents.
The students choose a set list, and
rehearse under professional direction, for 90 minutes each
week.
Rock Songwriting students write and perform original rock
songs under a guided songwriting process.
Concerts
At the end of the term, each band performs
in
two concerts - First, a concert of the band's full set list
in Music
Training Center's theater.
Second, a 1-song performance at
World
Cafe Live in a concert featuring all of MTC's bands. The final concert
is a tremendous experience for the kids to see other kids perform.
Instrumentation
Each class is limited to a maximum of 3 guitarists,
1 bassist, 1 keyboardist, 1 lead singer, 1 saxophonist. Rock 101 classes may have up to 2 drummers.
Intermediate and Advanced classes have only 1 drummer.
Any band member may sing backup vocals.
The stage has two full drum kits. When
two student drummers are enrolled, the drum coach will rotate
with student drummers during rehearsals. Both student drummers perform
in the entire show along with a drum coach (if needed) who
plays on a 3rd drum kit.
Hearing Protection Policy
MTC provides one pair of high quality, reusable
"Hearos" brand earplugs to each student, the first time the
student attends a MTC rock
band program. Students are expected to retain and use
these earplugs during all current and future
rock band classes and camps.
Parents must sign the
hearing protection form.
If a student arrives without earplugs, there is an automatic charge of $1 to provide
disposable earplugs. This $1 is charged the same day to the credit card on file (if no
credit card is on file, payment must be made as a condition
of participation in the final concert).
